How do I keep track numbers and album information correct while editing a whole album?

Group the files that belong to the same release before batch editing in Waketag. Apply only truly shared fields, such as the album name, across the selection, and inspect each song's title and track information separately. Different album editions may have different orders. Save a backup and review the resulting album in your player before replacing your main copies.

Steps to follow

1. Group files by the exact album edition, keeping deluxe and standard releases apart when their track lists differ.
2. Batch-edit shared fields only, then review individual song titles, disc numbers and track positions.
3. Save a small sample and check the album's order and grouping in your player before processing the rest.

Alphabetical order is not album order

A player may sort by track and disc metadata instead of filenames. For multi-disc albums, inspect both fields together rather than assigning one repeated number across the selection. Keep a backup so an unintended batch value can be corrected without losing the original information.
